FAQ: I wear progressive lenses or bifocals. How does that work with CraftOptics?

CraftOptics are designed to have the correction you normally wear installed in the frame. The magnifiers work WITH your correction, they are not a substitute for it. Your complete prescription or reader (if that is all you wear) is installed in our CraftOptics titanium frames and the magnifiers enhance your corrected vision. Jeff explains:

FAQ: I only wear readers/cheaters. What do I have you install in my CraftOptics?

In this video, Jeff explains that the magnifiers are NOT a substitute for your reading correction. They work together. This way, when you flip up the magnifiers, you will still be able to see as you normally would through your reader.

FAQ: What happens when my prescription changes?

When your prescription or reading correction changes, you can simply have the new correction installed in your frames. Jeff explains how your CraftOptics will last a lifetime.

FAQ: What are the working distance options?

CraftOptics has three working distance options that will help you see every detail work from a comfortable posture, so you can create without eye or back strain, eliminating the “hunchover” that so many of us do.

Short: 12-14″ Best for work on elevated surfaces: benchtop jewelry, fine scale modeling, etc. If you are used to holding your work close and prefer to work that way, select this distance.Regular: 14-16″ Best for tabletop and a wide variety of similar position activities: beadwork, quilting, needlework, etc. This is the most common selection.Long: 16-18″ Best for long-arm quilting and longer distance work, wood carving or for taller artists. If you are concerned about your posture and hold your work further away, select this range.

FAQ: What are the choices for how my prescription gets installed in my CraftOptics?

For those who wear progressive lenses, bifocals or trifocals, Jeff explains how your prescription (or readers) can be installed in your CraftOptics. For all options, we always install your near correction or reader in the bottom of the frame.

Here are the choices for the upper part of your frame:

  1. If you watch TV while you create, then we install your DISTANCE correction in the upper part of the frame (or clear lenses if you only wear a reading correction). This is the default installation.
  2. If you only need to see tools that are nearby (at a jeweler’s bench, for example), we install your NEAR correction in the ENTIRE frame (this is called a single vision lens). This means you will only be able to see near when looking above the magnifiers.
  3. Finally, if you mostly watch courses or instructions on your computer or tablet within about 3′, we install your INTERMEDIATE (arm’s length) correction in the upper part of the frame. This has become more common over the past couple of years as people are taking more online courses.

Please indicate option 1, 2 or 3 in the notes section of your order.

Quick tips for new CraftOptics owners--watch this!

Get set up the right way for maximum delight! This video was geared for jewelry artists but it applies to all activities.

  • Attach the light properly to the telescopes (put the wire behind you – don’t let the it hang).
  • Wear the glasses all the way up–don’t slide them down  your nose like readers.
  • Avoid sitting too close to your work. The magnifying telescopes are designed to work at a certain distance. We all have the habit of leaning closer to our work. When wearing CraftOptics, this has a negative effect on clarity. If things don’t look right, sit back a bit instead of leaning in.
  • Look ABOVE the telescopes when grabbing tools, etc. Don’t look through the telescopes to search around your work area.

How to attach the DreamBeam Light to your CraftOptics

CraftOptics magnification alone is a big step up in optical clarity. Combined with the powerful DreamBeam, your vision takes a quantum leap! The tiny light attaches to CraftOptics right between your eyes, blasting brilliant, shadowless light directly on your projects.

Be sure to attach your DreamBeam light properly. It all starts by making sure it is snapped onto the hinge between the magnifying telescopes and not onto the PD knob, and putting the light wire behind you by clipping it to the eyeglass retainer strap that is included with your CraftOptics.

The correct position for the magnifiers. IMPORTANT!

When you pull the magnifiers away from the glasses, they won’t align properly. Just make sure you put them all the way down. The closer they are to your eyes, the larger the field size and the easier it is to see your work.
